Industrial blowers can be specified by blower type, flow capacity, dimensions, maximum operating pressure, port design, and electrical ratings. Following are two basic types of industrial blowers Centrifugal Blowers andPositive Displacement Blowers.

Positive displacement blowers create flow by filling and emptying chambers of air; these blowers produce flow which is relatively independent of operating pressure. There are several variations available which use the same premise but slightly different design. Here we discuss two popular types: rotary vane and rotary lobe.

Positive displacement blowers from Howden Roots or Gardner Denver has the technology you need. Sutorbilt blowers are rugged and reliable. Gardner Denver has the best positive displacement blower selection and technology in the industry.

Rotary Lobe blowers work on a similar principal as rotary vane blower. Two impellers rotate in opposite directions which cause the blower to trap gas on the inlet side of the blower and then as the lobes rotate exhaust it from the outlet. The gas travels in the cavities around the periphery of the lobe chamber from the inlet to the outlet and the volume of the air does not change between the inlet and the outlet of the blower. The volumetric flow is dependent on the size of the chambers and the speed of rotation. Because of their design a two lobe rotary lobe blower outputs air in pulses. This can be mitigated by increasing the number of lobes.

A Helical Screw Blower is a positive displacement rotary machine, consisting a pair of intermeshing rotors, which are also known as: male and female rotors. These rotors move towards each other as the volume trapped between them and the housing decreases. Helical screw blowers are more advanced when compared to the traditional roots style blower. These blowers are mainly used in chemicals & petrochemicals, steel plants, cement, power, and food & pharmaceuticals. The helical screw blower is majorly used in the chemicals & petrochemicals industry as they are used are to convey, compress and boost the corrosive, inert and explosive gases such as nitrogen, natural gas, flare & vent gas, chlorine gas and various hydrocarbon combinations generated in the chemical plants and refineries.

Centrifugal blowers are the most common blowers used in ventilation systems. They’re also used to transport gas and control air pollution. When an air stream passes through this blower’s rotating impellers it increases in both speed and volume. Centrifugal blowers actually change the airflow’s direction as well. The air or gas enters the fan wheel, turns 90 degrees, and speeds up before exiting the blower.

There are many industries that will need an air flow at high speed along with high pressure. For such industries, centrifugal blowers are made so that the work output can be obtained with efficiency. Cement plant, power generation, steel industries are some of the industries were centrifugal blowers are used. Centrifugal blowers will include its participation in a ventilation system, combustion, transportation of materials, heating and cooling system, industrial vacuum application in the industries and dust collection system.

A turbo blower produces compressed air with an impeller rotating at high speed. High-speed turbo blowers use a direct-coupled impeller that is directly connected to a permanent magnet synchronous motor operated by a variable frequency drive (VFD) for reaching higher speeds and at the same time enabling flow control. Hoffman & Lamson Revolution Plus, the new High-Speed Turbo Blower in the market offers noiseless operation which is oil-free and allows accurate flow and pressure control.

Regenerative blowers move air using non-positive displacement. They allow some air to pass over a blade and then forward using another blade. This is different from machines that use positive displacement that work by trapping air and forcing it to move. These devices are relatively simple and use only the blades and enclosed space to operate. Air flows into the blower through a port and out through a different port. Regenerative blowers operate using a motor or engine that causes the blades to rotate.

Industries that work with chemicals or environmental processes often use regenerative blowers. They are also used in lifting, packaging, and conveying products. A regenerative blower can be used to remove dust or smoke from the air, extract soil vapour, or perform sewage aeration.

Liquid-ring vacuum pumps, centrifugal blowers, and steam ejectors are three devices that are commonly used to produce vacuum. The working principle of a liquid ring pump is based around a pump body and an eccentric rotor. As the rotor spins, the seal liquid inside the pump forms a rotating liquid ring on the inner surface of the body forming the “liquid ring”. NASH liquid ring vacuum pumps feature three product sizes including small capacity, medium capacity, and large capacity liquid ring pumps. Gardner Denver also manufactures high pressure vacuum pump.
